We’ve all been there – tossing and turning, flipping to the cooler side of the pillow, anything to get to sleep and stay there. You’ve tried just about everything to get to sleep and get better sleep once you’re finally asleep. Whether you’re familiar with meditation or a beginner, popular meditation app Headspace has teamed up with Netflix in a new series called Headspace Guide to Sleep — a way to instruct people on how to sleep better.
Each episode takes sleep myths and misconceptions, debunking them and educates you on things to do during the day, before bed, and ways to help you unwind to get to sleep faster and sleep more soundly. At the end of every episode, the calm Headspace narrator walks you through a meditation to relax you and help you get ready to fall asleep. Yes, even if you’re the type of person who just can’t seem to find anything to kick the insomnia or constant thoughts running through your mind.
“This series is so good that I believe ANY human could do this and it would work for them,” Dr. Amy Edwards suggests, “and it would put me out of business!” All jokes aside, meditation has been proven to work as an alternative solution to falling asleep, getting a more sound sleep, and helping you to stay asleep.
If you’re a meditation beginner, Headspace and Netflix have a Guide to Meditation series as well to get you even more acclimated to the practice. What sets Headspace apart from most meditation apps is the fact that they take the science behind what meditation can do for you and use it to debunk sleep myths, teach you what’s really going on, and makes the practice of meditation fun and easy for anyone.
After all, if you’re sleeping better your mental and physical health gets better. Sleep affects more than just your body, but also your mind. Incorporating a regular meditation practice whether it’s before bed, when you wake up, or just short pit stops throughout the day to check in with yourself will increase your mental well-being and your physical well-being.
